My travels are about finding a home, a job and a group of friends. I want to experience the world as a local.
So I am on a mission to work my way around the world; but I am journeying slowly.
Where have I travelled?
My travels have taken me on adventures in the following countries (many before I had this blog):
Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Hondurus, Indonesia, Italy, Kosovo, Macedonia, Monaco, Montenegro, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA, Vatican City.
Where have I lived?
To date, I have lived and worked in seven countries: Australia, Croatia, France, Thailand, Turkey, UK, USA.
Currently, I am living in Chiang Mai (Thailand) and blogging / writing full time. Yay!
Click on each country for more info, specifically info regarding the types of work I have managed to find in these countries, and guides to how I did it.
Which places do I love most?
Australia
Unquestionably, beautiful Australia, my first love, has my heart. The outdoorsy vibe, the easy culture, the friendliness, the lifestyle, the wages, the weather, the space, the sports, the beaches…. I can’t even….
It began with a goon fuelled backpacking trip (my first ever!) at the ripe young age of 18. Having since lived here for 15 months on the WHV, working in a lot of off-the-beaten-path places and travelling extensively, I now know Australia exceptionally well.
I am very passionate about this country and the ways it has changed me.
USA
I have spent a lot of time in the USA; numerous holidays and stop-overs, three months living and working on Orcas Island in the pacific Northwest (Seattle area), and several months driving across the country from East to West in a killer road trip.
I am drawn here to hike, ski, swim, bike, camp… Just get me a tent and a national parks pass, and I’m one very happy hippy.
In total I have spent time in 25/50 US states… and I have plans to one day go back and see the remainder.
Europe
Let’s be real here, I’m talking about the Balkans- another part of the world which has my heart. I have spent some time living in Croatia to teach adventure sports, and then many months travelling the rest of Europe. I have spent time in 25/50 (ish) European countries.
Still curious? Below is a full summary of past adventures…
Previous adventures
Feb 2015 – April 2015: Travel across North America, Honduras and Peru. I crossed something epic off my bucket list and hiked the inca trail to Macchu Picchu, wow! To get there from Australia, I ended up going via Hawaii, LA, Fort Lauderdale, Honduras (where I learnt to dive on Roatan) and Lima. Each place had its own challenges and adventures…What a journey!
November 2013 – Feb 2015: Working Holiday Visa in Australia. It began with a jet-lagged week alone in Perth, followed by a bar job in the baked wastelands of the Pilbara, then a goat farm. There were 2 blissful months of beaching and partying in Perth, before I bought a car, found some travel buddies on Gumtree and spent a month driving North on an epic road trip to Broome. From there I moved into the Kimberley to work on a cattle station for two months, till I moved to a tiny set of remote islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, where I learnt to kite surf. Cue another epic road trip around the rest of the country- kiting, surfing and hiking myself into full blown hippy-livin.
Autumn 2013: Last minute season work in Tignes. Drove to the French Alps and undertook a working holiday with the boyfriend; I worked as a marketing consultant to re-write a prominent chalet company’s marketing plan. Ever seen the alps in summer? Stunning. We hiked, we biked, we messed about on the lake, we loved our lives.
Summer 2013: Road-tripping through the USA!! Hired a car, roped in the boyfriend, and drove across America. East coast to west coast, across 20 states and 7,000 miles, through some of the most incredible scenery I’ve ever clapped eyes on. Utterly incredible, trip of a lifetime.
December 2012 – April 2013: Ski Season in the French Alps. Took the plunge and went back to the Alps to run a chalet with a the other half, who I met last season. Same banter, same ski fun, but shared with a partner in crime.
Summer 2012: Festival Season. Worked the UK festival circuit as a bar manager with an events company, hard work but great fun! Managed large, hectic bars and silly amounts of pilled up staff for 50 hours each weekend, now that’s a challenge.
May 2012: Super-yacht Stewardess time! I got my STCW95 and flew out to the South of France to find yacht work. I indeed found a job, but three weeks onboard a yacht confirmed that this path wasnt for me… but you never know unless you go! No regrets!
November 2011 to April 2012: Ski season in the French Alps! 5 months working as a chalet host in Val Thorens, Les Menuires, Alpe D’Huez and La Plagne. Taught myself to ski AND cook, result!
September to November 2011: Backpacked Europe: Couch-surfed/ate/partied my way through Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and Poland. A lot of this was only possible due to the wonderful world of Couch Surfing! Check it out…
June to September 2011: Activity instructor / English teacher in Croatia! 3 months work in a gorgeous Croatian summer camp, and lots of travelling around this Adriatic gem.
June to October 2008: Work and Travel in the USA: 3 months work in an American summer camp, followed by 1 months backpacking through 6 states- Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Arizona and New York.
February to May 2007: 3 months backpacking Australia! New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland. The usual culprits: Fraser Island, Whitsundays, skydiving, bungy jumping, too much goon…
July 2006: Africa! 1 Months volunteer work with aids orphans in Uganda, Africa. Teaching, building, caring. Incredible.
